What are the program basics?

Housing Choice (Section 8) participants receive help with their rent within the private market. These homes are owned and managed by private landlords.

Am I eligible?

Eligibility for a housing voucher is determined by the Housing Authority based on the total annual gross income and family size and is limited to US citizens and specified categories of non-citizens who have eligible immigration status. By law, the Housing Authority must provide 75% of its vouchers to applicants whose incomes do not exceed 30% of the area median income.

How much will my rent be?

Rent is based on income, applicable payment standard, and program rental cap.

Are pets allowed?

Pet policy is determined by your landlord.

What is the least I can earn and still be eligible?

There is no minimum income requirement for Housing Choice Voucher applicants.
