EHA Accepted into MTW Demonstration Program
In January 2021, after conducting resident and participant engagement, Everett Housing Authority (EHA) applied to join the MTW demonstration as part of the Rent Reform group, which will study a new way of setting rents/tenant payments for some residents and participants. We formally joined the demonstration this summer.
The next step will be for EHA to develop an MTW Supplement to its Public Housing Agency Annual Plan, describing in more detail the specific new policies that EHA will implement in its first year of participating in MTW. EHA will hold public meetings in late 2021 or early 2022, to be announced soon, for residents/participants to learn more and provide feedback on the MTW Supplement.
MTW is a demonstration program for housing authorities through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD. MTW agencies design and test innovative, locally developed strategies to accomplish three objectives: use Federal dollars more efficiently, help residents/participants find employment and become self-sufficient, and increase housing choices for low-income families.
MTW flexibility will play a critical role in helping us accomplish our ambitious mission: "The Everett Housing Authority creates affordable housing, fosters healthy communities where households thrive, and replaces systemic racism with equity for all."
